Who We Are
The Brooklyn Mishlachat (delegation) is a group of Jewish Agency for Israel’s Shlichim (emissaries), working with the wide Jewish community around Brooklyn, from early childhood to seniors, across all denominations in the borough.
Our mission is to strengthen the bond between theBrooklyn Jewish community to Israel and building strong human relationships.
Our Mishlachat is comprised of one senior Shlicha (the head of the delegation) and three Shinshinim (gap year emissaries).

The Shinshin Program
Shinshinim are Israeli high school graduates who make Israel come alive by developing personal relationships with our community members and families. They volunteer, teach, and engage with people of all ages and infuse Israeli culture into local events and experiences.

Who are we looking for host families?
While the Shinshiniot will live independently in their own apartment, host families will help them get to know Jewish life in Brooklyn, and navigate the transition of living away from home. Hosting a Shinshinit is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact, build lifelong connections with Israel, and bring the energy, spirit, and warmth of Israeli youth into your home and community.
What do we ask from host families?
Provide a warm and welcoming home away from home.
Option 1: Host regularly for Shabbat or holiday meals over 3 months – for continuity and deeper connection.
Option 2: Join a rotation for the year and commit to several Shabbat or holiday meals – offering flexibility with ongoing involvement.
